It provides a clear separation between the different types of cash flows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MdSpace\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"4255\" class=\"component component-text component-text--text\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-12 col-lg-9\">\n<h3>The changes under IFRS 18<\/h3>\n<p>IFRS 18 introduces two key changes to the cash flow statement:<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Change 1: new classification of interest and dividends<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Under IAS 7, companies had options when classifying interest and dividends.<\/p>\n<p>Interest paid could be classified either as a financing activity or as an operating activity. Under IFRS 18, the new starting point is <strong>operating profit\/loss<\/strong>, one of the new subtotals that IFRS 18 introduces. This is important to understand, because it does not mean that operating performance is worse.
